The Main Event
So many flavours to think about here, we need something that can cope with the stronger flavours of sprouts, chestnuts, cranberry sauce and sage, not just turkey. But there is a wine that can do all this and more: good Pinot Noir. Go for something from Burgundy or if you prefer a riper, New World style, head for Martinborough in New Zealand. If you’d prefer a white wine to go with this lot, try a southern French Viognier or a fuller-bodied Chardonnay – think Australia or top notch South Africa.

To Follow Up
Endless possible combinations but for the pavlova and trifle, a light, frothy Moscato d’Asti will work wonders. For the chocolate, we’re going sweeter and a bit stickier – try a little bottle of Maury (tastes somewhere between a red wine and a port), from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France. If you can’t find those, a good half bottle of Sauternes will do the job nicely.
